Parish Pilgrimage

April 17, 2007

On April 25 our parish will visit the Shrine of Blessed Bishop-Martyr Vasyl Velychkovsky at St. Joseph Parish in Winnipeg (Canada’s second Martyr’s Shrine). Our pilgrimage begins at 7:00 pm. We will have opportunity to pray together before his holy relics which were entombed in 2002 and to be anointed with blessed oil touched to these relics (third class relic). I encourage all parishioners to participate in this holy event, to receive the mercies of our loving God through the intercession of His martyr, Vasyl. Great things have happened already through this saint’s prayers. For more information, please visit the Shrine website.

anastasi1.jpgChrist is risen! Really, nothing more really need be said. These are the words that the women brought back from the empty tomb to the Peter and the apostles; these are the words that caused them to run to the tomb, to see for themselves that it was empty; these are the words that gathered them together in that upper room where the Risen One appeared to them; these are the words that rang true to them, even to Thomas, when they touched the Master who had died and destroyed Death; these are the words that the apostles proclaimed to the ends of the world.

Christ is risen! These are the words with which we great each other during this great and glorious Day of Days, Solemnities of Solemnities! Let them not be empty words. Let them not be just words of greeting and introduction. Let these words change the world! Let us, like the apostles, take these words, this proclamation to the ends of the world. Let our entire world be permeated with this Good News!

Christ is risen! Our life has been restored - not to Paradise, but to the Throne of the one Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Christ is risen! Forgiveness has been poured upon us freely and lavishly!

Christ is risen! Our dignity has been returned.

Christ is risen! Death is not to be feared.

Christ is risen! New life is now to be lived.

Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen!
