Father’s Father

August 22, 2007

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Greetings from our nation’s capital - Ottawa. I am here at the request of my father, Harvey. He lost a lung to cancer last week. The surgery went well. However, complications arose with his heart and we almost lost him. I am here to assist my father in his recovery, and to assist my mother in her care for Dad.

While last week was touch and go, it wasn’t until Dad had a “cardiac conversion” by electricity through those paddles we all see on television that we can now say that Dad is doing much better. He was moved into a semi-private this morning. At the moment, he is alone there; he’ll be able to rest well.

My flight arrived early (I sat behind the famed Hollywood actor Adam Beach - “Flags of our Fathers”) and my mother had just pulled up to the door of the airport when I walked out - talk about timing! We went immediately to the hospital to see Dad. How I longed to see him and give him a huge hug. And that I did. We embraced for some time. I could feel him relax in those moments.

We shared some time talking about the procedures and the absolutely amazing medical staff at the Ottawa General Hospital. Dad is quite tired and so left for a while and returned in the evening for a short visit.

I will see him again tomorrow morning (Thursday). We have been told that he will return home on Monday.

Thanks for your prayers, everyone. They are working. I thought I should let you know. I miss you all already.
