Grave Blessings

June 11, 2007

For those who were not able to participate in the Grave Blessings at All Saints and Holy Family Cemeteries on Pentecost and All Saints, you’ll be happy to know that we will have special services on Sunday, June 24 (Nativity of St John the Baptist and Sunday of All Saints of Kyivan-Rus’ and Canada) at the following times:

  • Holy Family Cemetery, 2:00 pm
  • All Saints Cemetery, 4:00 pm

Blessing of Graves

May 23, 2007

It is our custom to bless the graves of our loved ones sometime during Bright Week and on the All Souls Saturday before Pentecost. In the Archeparchy of Winnipeg, it has long been the local custom to have these blessings take place on Pentecost Sunday itself. As the Gregorian and Julian calendars align this year for Pascha (and therefore Pentecost), there will be two Sundays of grave blessings.

  • 2:00 pm, Sunday, May 27
    Holy Family Cemetery
  • 2:00 pm, Sunday, June 3
    All Saints Cemetery

We do not know if Metropolitan Lawrence will be presiding at either cemetery.

For our own parish, we have many loved ones buried at the Elmwood Cemetery. We will begin Grave blessings there at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 2. We will meet at the main entrance and determine then the order we will follow.

The schedule is up - just click on the left menu!

Chrismation at Our Lady of Fatima Byzantine Catholic Church, San Francisco, CAI received a note from the Chancellor yesterday that the Consecration of the Holy Chrism will take place on Lazarus Saturday, March 31 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral (McGregor Street). This consecration, which usually takes place on the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the great on Great and Holy Thursday, has been moved to this date by the Metropolitan in order to involve more the of clergy and faithful in its celebration. For a beautiful understanding of Holy Chrism, please see the following explanation at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (and this is a beautiful case of where Greek Catholic and Greek Orthodox share a common understanding and celebration).
